Price

Duration

About the Course

While any effective psychological treatment considers and integrates patient values, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has explicitly incorporated identifying and clarifying values into the psychotherapy model. This activity functions to help individuals change their behavior in ways that align with what brings them meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. Values clarification is a powerful tool in not only helping patients to connect with who they are, but also in providing concrete strategies to help make changes that they themselves have defined as important to creating the lives they want to live. This course provides practical instruction in the process of values clarification, including identifying key cues that values clarification may be useful with a given client. Participants will be exposed to a variety of psychoeducational tools that can be used directly with clients to increase their understanding of the meaning of the term "values" within this context and understand the importance of values clarification. In addition, this course will model several different types of strategies, including visual representations as well as metaphors, that can be used to assist patients in clarification of their values and implement values-aligned actions within their everyday life in order to improve functional outcomes.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Apply at least two psychoeducation tools to increase patient knowledge and understanding about the importance of values

  • Demonstrate (model) at least three strategies (including visual aids and metaphors) to teach the effective use of values with patients

  • Apply at least two practical tools to clarify values and shape patients towards using committed actions

To receive credit, participants must watch the recording in full and pass the associated homestudy test.
